Just Too Logical: Linguistically Challenged

vafa · 8 months agoThat happens to me all the time, but it's not limited to spanish, although i've never gone to a "mexican" store and been spoken to in english. The indian stores make the same assumption with me, and also the arabic stores. I kinda like it though cause it makes me feel like i belong to all these communities. My friend(white american) invited me to go to lunch so he suggested an indian restaurant. then while we were having lunch he tells me about this place that has great baby back ribs. I said why didnt we go there? he said because I thought you iranians are all muslim and cant eat pork. I whacked him in the head. the point is everyone makes assumptions about people that are more often than not based on irrational prejudices: some on skin color, some on eye color, some on dress, car, house ad nauseum.... the best we can do is to constantly scrutinize our beliefs to make sure they are congruent with our logic, hence the mandate of "INDIVIDUAL
